Saddle River County Park Playground in Rochelle Park, New Jersey is part of the massive 577-acre Saddle River County Park. It consists of five parks that are linked by a multi-use path, with circular paths around some ponds. While each park in the system offers a playground we chose to focus on the ones with accessible playgrounds. This was the second accessible playground we visited and it was truly special. The other one is their playground in Ridgewood.
This accessible county park is smaller than the one in Ridgewood but it offers a picturesque setting and lots of play features for kids.

Where is Saddle River County Park located?
This Rochelle Park playground is part of the Saddle River County Park which is part of the Bergen County Park System. The park is located at 40 Railroad Avenue in Rochelle Park, New Jersey. The playground can be a little tricky to get to. Looking at this park map you can see that the playground is not located at the Railroad Avenue entrance. There are three parking lots at this entrance so you can park in one of the lots and use the walking path to get to the playground. Since we were on a time crunch (trying to fit multiple playgrounds into the course of one day) and we knew there was a parking lot near the playground, we were determined to find our way to that lot.
We could tell that entrance was off of Howard Avenue. Howard Avenue is a loop that intersects with Harvey and Hoffman Avenue. Since I had trouble initially finding it I’ve taken a screenshot of a Google Map to help our readers who aren’t familiar with the area.
The playground is not visible from the road. It is tucked within a residential area. Look for the sign below because it’s VERY easy to miss as you drive through the neighborhood to find the playground.
What kind of playground equipment does the Rochelle Park Saddle River County Park have?
There are two playground structures, one for older kids and one for younger kids (tot lot) and two swing set structures at this playground.
The structure for older kids is the larger of the two structures and is accessible. Don’t let the simple front fool you. Behind this structure is are multiple climbing features.
To the side of the main playground structure is a tot lot/preschooler playground complete with climbing walls, ladders, and more.
Are there swings?
There are two swingsets. The first swing set has 4 traditional swings.
The second swingset has 2 baby swings and 2 accessible swings.
Are there slides?
Each playground has 1 side-by-side slide. The green slide belongs to the older kids playground.
The brown side-by-side slide is on the preschool playground.
What special features does the playground offer?
The playground offers stepping pods, spinners, sensory play, fireman’s poles, and more.
Behind the larger playground is a variety of climbing ladders, ropes, and walls.
What kind of ground cover does the playground have?
The ground cover is wood mulch.
Is the playground at Saddle River County Park in Rochelle Park accessible?
We believe the Saddle River County Park includes 2 accessible playgrounds. This one offers a wide ramp with sensory play areas both at ground level and on the equipment.
The swingset offers 2 accessible swings. The other accessible playground in the Saddle River County Park system is their playground in Ridgewood.
Is there shade available at the Rochelle Park Saddle River County Park playground?
The swings receive some shade from the trees overhead. There is also this cute little play area under the equipment where kids can play and sit to get away from the sun. There is a pavilion and a gazebo elsewhere in this park but they are not visible from the playground.
Where is parking for the Saddle River County Park in Rochelle Park?
There is a small parking lot, as you access the playground, from Howard Avenue. If you enter the park through the Railroad Avenue entrance there are 3 parking lots.
Are there restrooms at this Rochelle Park playground?
The restrooms were not visible from the playground area. The map designates that there are indoor restrooms between the pavilion near the softball field.
What else is there to do at Saddle River County Park in Rochelle Park?
In addition to the playground at Saddle River County Park, there are additional amenities available for visitors.
Are there walking trails?
There is a multi-use path that begins at Railroad Avenue and winds along the river for approximately 1 mile then links to the footbridge. Visitors can loop back on the Saddle Brook side of the river or keep exploring by heading north under the Garden State Parkway.
Are there fields or courts for sports?
There is a basketball court just off the parking lot. Behind the playground, we saw a large open area of grass. Beyond that is one of the ball fields. There are additional basketball courts and tennis courts located at the Railroad Avenue entrance to the park.
